In this new series presented by Dr Aaron Balick and Nathalie Nahai we explore the stories that define people’s lives. This teaser uncovers how people have lost or found themselves through sex, drugs and technology. Nathalie and Aaron guide us through these narratives and ask the underlying question… What is “self”, and how do we find it?
In our first episode we follow the story of Jack. We are all familiar with what might be called the archetypal story of recovery from addiction which requires one to hit “rock bottom” before being fully able to commit to recovery. But what brings one to rock bottom later in life, can originate from a chain reaction that starts surprisingly early.
Many of us have experienced the loss of a loved one, and many too, have experienced a loss of faith. But what happens when both come together, when you lose your faith at a time when you probably need it the most? In this, our second episode, we take a deep dive into one woman’s story of losing both her mother and her religion at the same time.
There are many ways to gain insight into the self from a variety of traditions and cultural routes. Different traditions speak to different people at different points in their lives. In our third episode we meet Paul, who transitioned from the traditional “Western” route of training as a clinical psychologist towards seeking himself and helping others do the same through other routes.
In this episode we meet psychotherapist Michele, whose early life was marked not only by the overcoming of childhood deafness, but by the loss of her father, mother, and eventually her sister too. When she experiences a crippling accident and finds herself being called to the jungles of Peru, she embarks on a journey that will change her life forever.
